This Way Or That – Composition

Changing the point of view in an image can dramatically improve or deteriorate it’s composition.  It’s possible to see the world in a completely new and exciting way just by changing the direction or angle of your camera.  Once in a while though, just a small difference can make quite the difference.  The two images below were both taken in the same canyon but with slightly different points of view.  Which do you prefer?

Shot 1

0114_untitled_002This shot was taken next to the Virgin River at Zion National Park at a height of about 4ft from the ground, typical tripod height.

Shot 2

0114_untitled_037This shot was taken about 12″ from the ground moved about one foot to the right with a two legs of the tripod in the river.
