Day Forty Five

The photo above was taken around 8pm and was difficult to get a good color representation due to the numerous light sources striking the sign from all different angles.  Once you read a little about the history of the hotel you’ll know why I couldn’t pass up this photo.

The Weatherford hotel was established in 1898 and has had some interesting characters visit it including Wyatt Earp and Theodore Roosevelt.  The hotel was an iconic frontier building that retains much of the historic allure today.  When you walk in the front door you feel like your walking through a portal into a time when gunslingers sat at the bar and ranch owners smoked their stogies in the lobby area with its majestic furniture and antique decor.  Inside the door is an antique phone booth that represents the first telephone in flagstaff that was supposedly located in the Weatherford Hotel.  If you’re traveling along Route 66 I highly recommend stopping here for dinner and drinks.
